What must I do to be saved?

Let me ask you the most important question you’ve ever been asked. Do you know for sure if you were to die today that you would go to Heaven?

Notice, I did not ask whether or not you were a church member or had been baptized or even if you believe in God. Let me say it another way. Are you 100% sure that if you were to die now that you would go to Heaven?

The Bible teaches that you can know for sure and here’s how:

First, you must realize you’re lost before you can be saved. No one who thinks of himself as “OK” is going to be concerned about spiritual matters. The Bible says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23)

Secondly, you must realize that you will answer to God and pay for your sin. The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death.” (Rom. 6:23) “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of like was cast into the lake of fire.” (Rev. 20:14-15) God’s punishment for sin is eternal death in a literal burning Hell.

Thirdly, the Bible tells in Romans 5:8 that God demonstrated His love for us “In that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

The justice of God demands that for ever sin there must be an equal and just payment of that sin. In mercy God allowed His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay for our sins by giving His life for us.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believable in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Finally, you should realize that the “gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom. 6:23)

Now let’s answer the question, “How can I know if I died I would go to Heaven?” In Romans 10:9,13 the Lord says “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Jesus has died upon a cross and shed his blood to give you eternal life. But a gift must be received. If you will pray and ask the Lord to save you, you can be assured that when you die, you will go to Heaven.

The Bible is very clear on this matter of being saved. If a person desires to know Christ as Savior, that desire can be met by trusting in the Word of God.

Why not bow your head right now and ask Christ to come into your heart? Jesus said, “Behold I stand at the door and knock: If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him…” (Rev. 3:20)

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know that I am a sinner deserving of eternal punishment in Hell. But I believe that you died and suffered Hell for me on the cross. I now accept you as my personal Savior. Please come into my heart and save me from my sin. Thank you for saving me and for giving me an eternal home in Heaven. Amen.
